SUMMARY
Ramsar sites are known for preserving biodiversity. This study takes the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site in Ghana as a case study and examines the various biodiversity at the site. The study thus examined, through a survey, bird populations in seven communities surrounding the site, aspects of fish population dynamics, and the mapping of Flora within the site. The methodology combined point counts, point transects, line transects, and opportunistic observations to survey birds in seven surrounding communities, along with a questionnaire assessing human-induced threats to bird populations. The study also sampled fish to explore population dynamics. Vegetation was mapped to assess plant diversity across the site. The results suggest the need for measures to protect and enhance the sustainability of the biodiversity in the area. The study therefore recommends conservation through education and awareness-raising to inform surrounding communities about the importance of biodiversity and biological processes at the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site.
