Through a partnership with Expertise France under the EU-funded Savoirs Eco project, GDN launched its flagship Doing Research (DR) initiative in Tunisia in March 2024, running until September 2025.
Following a call in October 2023, the Applied Social Sciences Forum (ASSF), led by Prof. Abdelwahab Benafaiedh and supported by mentor Prof. Ghazi Boulila, was selected to conduct the DR Assessment (DRA). The project officially launched on March 14, 2024, at CERES with representatives from government, research centres, and the academic community.
Research began in May 2024, with presentations at the Association of Tunisian Economists’ annual meeting in June and a mid-term workshop in October. Preliminary results were shared in June 2025, and the final bilingual report was completed in August 2025.
The closing conference will take place at CERES on September 18, 2025, with participation from the Ministry of Higher Education, the French Ambassador, the EU Delegation, and Tunisian universities. The initiative engaged over 500 researchers and policymakers and marks the first DRA in the MENA region, serving as a pilot for future expansion.
