Chairman, Economic Research Group, Bangladesh
Wahiduddin Mahmud is Chairman of Economic Research Group in Dhaka and a former professor of economics at University of Dhaka. He is currently a member of the UN Committee for Development Policy, Chairman of South Asia Network of Economic Research Institutes and a country advisor of International Growth Centre at LSE. He has frequently consulted for many international organizations and has held visiting appointments at Cambridge University, IDS at Sussex University, IFPRI, UNDP and the World Bank, among others. He is a founder and a former chairman of PKSF, the apex organization for funding the micro-credit programmes of NGOs in Bangladesh. He was also founder chairman of Institute of Microfinance, a sister organization of PKSF. He was Minister of Finance and Planning in the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh. He has authored a number of books and numerous journal papers on a wide range of topics in economic development. He holds a Ph.D in economics from Cambridge University.
