Tham Siew Yean

Visiting Senior Fellow, ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, Singapore, and Emeritus Professor, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia

Tham Siew Yean is Visiting Senior Fellow at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, Singapore and Emeritus Professor, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She has served as a consultant to national agencies in Malaysia such as the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and international agencies, including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Asian Development Bank Institute. Her research interests and publications are in foreign direct investment, international trade, trade policies, and industrial development in Malaysia and ASEAN. Her recent publications include: China in Malaysia - State-Business Relations and the New Order of Investment Flows (with Terence Gomez, Cheong Kee Cheok and Li Ran), Palgrave Macmillan (2020); “China’s Role in Malaysia’s Export Recovery in Covid Times”, (with Andrew Kam J.Y.), International Journal of China Studies, Vol. 12, No. 1, June 2021, pp. 133-155; Guest Editor, “Southeast Asia’s Automotive Sector at Crossroads: Current Changes and Future Challenges”, Journal of Southeast Asian Economies, Vol. 38, No. 2 (2021); and “Barriers and Factors Affecting E-commerce Utilization of Thai SMEs in Food and Beverage and Retail Services” (with Yot Amonkitvikai and Jirapon Tangpoolcharoen),Global Business Review, (2021) 22 (5):1-24. She has a PhD in economics from University of Rochester, USA.
