On December 3, in Dakar, Senegal, GDN and the African Economic Research Consortium hosted a half-day policy dialogue with high-level policymakers, representatives of aid agencies, and senior African researchers to discuss how local researchers, policymakers and aid institutions can advance the research agenda on aid effectiveness and support local development policies and plans. Roundtable discussions centered on debates around aid effectiveness and knowledge for inclusion in sub-Saharan Africa, with a special focus on financial inclusion. The following questions were highlighted:
- Has development assistance been effective in supporting the inclusion agenda in SSA, so far? What has the role of knowledge and evidence been in the past, and what should be the next research priorities?
- How should development assistance work, across new and old donors, to support fact-based policy making at the national level?
- How can local researchers and aid institutions, across new and old donors, work together to support the inclusion agenda in sub-Saharan Africa?
The event was organized as part of GDN's program on Development Aid Affectiveness in Africa, implemented in partnership with AERC, and funded by USAID. The program aims to support the emergence of African voices on the question of the effectiveness of development assistance, from the perspective of aid recipient countries in sub-Saharan Africa
