Why Do We Mentor?

Social economist and development expert Benjamin Buclet shares his experience of being a GDN Mentor, and tells us why GDN mentors the research projects it supports.

He discusses the rewards — and challenges — of mentoring, particularly at the global level, highlighting the need for mentors to maintain a high awareness of cultural differences. Most importantly, he discusses the value of listening to the project holders, and allowing them to guide the process.

"…the only ones who have the knowledge and the capacities and skills to implement the project are the project holders."
