Statement from Pierre Jacquet, President of the Global Development Network:

"It is with deep sadness that GDN Board members, colleagues and I learnt of the demise of Dr Isher Judge Ahluwalia, esteemed economist, former member of the Global Development Network Board of Directors and Chairperson of ICRIER (India).

I had personally met with Isher in the early 2000s, when she was the chairwoman of the  International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington, D.C., and was invited to deliver a lecture that I hosted at the French Institute for International Relations in Paris. I remember the rich and insightful discussion we had then. Little did I then foresee that our paths would cross again in New Delhi, when I joined GDN in 2012. Isher was then Vice Chairperson of the Board of GDN.

Isher had been instrumental in GDN's headquarter move from Washington, DC to New Delhi, India in 2005. She strongly believed in GDN's global mission. She was deeply committed to building the capacity of young economists around the world through GDN's programs in which she actively participated, and to forging connections between research institutes across South Asia. We shall remember her as a very knowledgeable and dedicated scholar, a mentor and a friend.

On behalf of our Board, staff and network, we send our deepest condolences to Montek Singh Ahluwalia and the rest of the family."
