24 August, 2016. The Global Development Network (GDN) is pleased to launch a new researach initiative with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Research Institute to document how the Japanese managerial philosophy of Kaizen performs. Kaizen literally means change (kai) for good (zen), and encourages continuous learning and improvement. If adopted as a managerial guiding principle, Kaizen is said to lead to industrial growth and to development within both public and private sectors. See Media Release.
8 August, 2016. The Global Development Network (GDN) has launched a new call for expressions of interest in studying the effectiveness of international aid in Africa. Early career researchers from developing countries will compete to win four grants of $24,000, to fund institutional, comparative, cross-country research efforts looking at why (and why not), and how aid works in sub-Saharan Africa. Pierre Jacquet, President
Pierre Jacquet is the fourth President of the Global Development Network (GDN). Formerly Chief Economist of the French Development Agency (AFD) between 2002 and 2012, he also served as the Executive Director in charge of strategy from 2002 to 2010. Preceding AFD, he was Deputy Director of the French Institute on International Relations (IFRI), where he was responsible for the economic program and was Chief Editor of IFRI's quarterly review Politique Etrangère. Ramona Angelescu Naqvi, Director of Programs
Ramona Angelescu Naqvi is Director of Programs at GDN, with general supervision of the organization's research programs under the President's leadership. She currently leads several global and inter-regional research projects at GDN and is the Team Lead for the interdisciplinary Global Research Competition. Francesco Obino, Program Manager
Francesco Obino is Program Manager at the Global Development Network. He has 8 years of experience in research, publishing and research capacity building in academia, international organizations, international and grassroots NGOs and academic publishing. His main research interest is the interplay of institutional development and organisational functioning for actors that focus on producing research across the global North and the global South. How to describe or refer to GDN
Our name is Global Development Network. We refer to ourselves simply as GDN, once our full name has been used.
In 2017, we revised our strapline to: Local Research for Better Lives. [We will apply this to all our communications products henceforth. We are no longer using the strapline, "Global Research Capacity Building Program," nor the older, longer version of the strapline seen on a few documents].
This is how we describe ourselves:

The Global Development Network (GDN) is a public international organization that supports high quality, policy-oriented, social science research in developing and transition countries to promote better lives. It supports researchers with financial resources, global networking, and access to information, training, peer review and mentoring. GDN acts on the premise that better research leads to more informed policies and better, more inclusive development. Through its global platform, GDN connects social science researchers with policymakers and development stakeholders across the world. Founded in 1999, GDN is currently headquartered in New Delhi.
