PAPER/POSTER/SESSION SUBMISSIONS

GDN 16th ANNUAL GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE

Casablanca, Morocco on June 11-13, 2015

GDN's Annual conference is a premier event which offers a significant platform for young researchers from developing countries, policy makers and development practitioners from all over the world to debate and deliberate on key development issues in the world.  Theme of this year’s annual global development conference is Agriculture for Sustainable Growth: Challenges and Opportunities for a New ‘Green Revolution’ to discuss and delve deeper into the aspects of sustainable growth for agriculture at a global level. The aim of this conference is also to answer these challenges and to outline new opportunities for countries across different geographies.  The 2015 GDN Annual conference will be structured around following four sub-themes to better understand the nature, role and prospects of agricultural development in the context of the post-2015 Development Agenda:

  • Food security and nutrition
  • Environmental challenges and natural resources management
  • Economic, social and political transformations: effects and impacts of agricultural development 
  • Financial and technological innovations: which new tools for the next ‘green revolution’?

Emerging from the main theme Agriculture for sustainable growth and sub-themes, a broad spectrum of discussions on the agricultural development in developing countries will help generate successful ideas for the improvement of policies. Comparative and cross-country approach is encouraged.   Topics to be covered at the Annual Global Development Conference will also include (non-exhaustive list):  

  • Agricultural productivity, farm policies, new industrial policies for entrepreneurship in agribusiness sector,
  • Agricultural products, sustainable food systems and nutrition;
  • Land and water management;
  • Priorities and financing of agricultural research;
  • Agriculture and environmental services;
  • Agriculture and rural development;
  • The functioning of primary commodity and food markets (both nationally and globally);
  • The mitigation of risks facing producers, including weather events and climate change;
  • Governance and agriculture: political economy aspects at the national, regional and international level;
  • Bioeconomics, linkages between agriculture and other sectors;
  • Trade and agricultural sector;
  • Agriculture and development aid to support strategic choices in agricultural development;
  • Indicators and measure of food security, natural and wealth accounting.

The depth and breadth of topics covered under this conference allow for robust discussion on complex issues, challenges and identifying opportunities to bring sustainable growth in agriculture. 

Submission Information

GDN is inviting submissions under open call for Paper/Poster/Sessions. Interested individual (s) can apply under different categories of competition and various sub-themes of the conference. They can apply individually, or in a team however only principal author can register. Please note more than one application is allowed but on a different theme as is listed under the conference program. We encourage submissions from female researchers.

Paper Submission

Original research papers are invited on the topics outlined or falling within the scope of the conference theme. The official language of the conference is English however submission in French language will also be accepted. Call is open to all individuals including researchers and professionals.  
 

IMPORTANT: Published papers are eligible to apply given they were published within one year of the closing of the call. 

Paper Abstract Submission

Paper Abstracts of  1000- 2500 characters (with spaces) should be submitted before the submission deadline of 31 January, 2015. Abstracts must clearly state the purpose of the study. By submitting an abstract, you are granting the permission to GDN to publish or disseminate your paper abstract electronically as part of conference proceedings. When you have successfully submitted your abstract, you will receive an automated email message of acknowledgement from GDN. Each submission should also include full Curriculum Vitae (including list of publications, if any) of the author (s). Abstract should only be submitted through the given online format otherwise will not be considered for review. 

Stages of submission and selection

  • Stage I - Paper abstract submission: Interested applicants are invited to submit the abstract of the paper for review and selection to the second stage.
  • Stage II - Full Paper submission: The successful applicants from stage I will submit their full paper, for review and final selection, for presentation during the conference through an automated link.

Important Dates

  • Deadline for submission of paper abstract: 31 January, 2015
  • Notification of acceptance of paper abstract (ONLY successful applicants will be contacted): 23 February, 2015
  • Deadline for submission of full paper: 8 March, 2015
  • Notification of successful full papers: 31 March, 2015

Submissions should be made before 18:00 hours (Indian Standard Time). Late submission or submission via email would not be considered.

NOTE: Best paper (s), as selected through the competition, from author (s) who meets the following eligibility criteria will be awarded for a prize during the conference:

  • Individuals in developing and transition countries with the requirement that they need to be citizens or permanent residents of these countries.
  • Citizens of developing and transition countries temporarily residing in a developed country for no more than five consecutive years as of 31 January,2015 are eligible to apply.
  • The upper age limit for applicants is 45 years as on 31 January, 2015.
  • Staff members of multilateral and bilateral organizations (The World Bank, IMF, IADB, UN agencies, DFID, AusAID, etc.) are not eligible for the prize.
  • Previous and current employees, and Grant winners ( of IRP, RRC, GRC and GRP) of the Global Development Network, the employees of GDN-RNP’s and Board members, project mentors, evaluation team members are not eligible for the prize.
  • Past grantees of GDN Awards and Medals competition are allowed to apply for the grant but not with the same GDN funded research outfit. Previous Medal winners cannot apply for 3 years of winning the prize.

Support to young researchers from developing countries 

Selected paper abstract author (s) can express their need for financial support to attend the conference with the submission of the final paper. GDN will provide more details and link to apply. Please note the funds are limited therefore award of financial support will be extremely competitive. We encourage the author (s) to garner funds from other sources in order to secure their participation to the conference. 

Poster Submission

Young researchers (i.e. Master’s students, PhD students and young researchers on job market) are invited to submit a poster addressing the issues related to the conference and its sub-themes. Researchers can submit and compete for both poster and paper presentations to the conference. A poster can be submitted by only one individual. Selected posters will be exhibited for informal browsing, with the opportunities for individual discussions and networking with poster authors. Poster exhibition will be organized on each day of the conference. 

Posters are accepted in English and in French language.

  • Researchers must submit their poster through the following:
  • Successful applicants will be invited to showcase their research outputs through a detailed poster at the poster exhibition during the conference.

Support to young researchers from developing countries 

Selected poster author can express their need for financial support to attend the conference with the submission of the final poster. GDN will provide more details and link to apply. Session Submission

Sessions are special and most dynamic events of the conference. They are organized by individuals, groups or institutions on a selected theme of the conference with regional/national/or global perspectives. The panel of the session may consist of four or five seasoned experts of the theme who will deliberate their respective presentations, with short and clear abstract. The duration of each session is 90 minutes with presentations (optional) or discussion of the panel with open floor general audience of the session.

How to submit the session abstract?

  • Session Abstract must be submitted using the following:
  • Word limit for description of the session abstract is 3000-5000 characters (with spaces).
  • Organizer of the session will provide full details of the panelists and paper (s) through the link
  • By submitting an abstract, you are granting GDN the permission to publish the abstract for compilation and to disseminate it electronically as part of conference proceedings
  • Session organizer (s) will cover the cost of their session (including session participants)

  • Notification of acceptance of session abstract: 3 March, 2015
  • Deadline for submission of final description of the session: 31 March, 2015
  • Notification of accepted session: 3 April, 2015
