GDN and IRMA Policy Dialogue

Jointly organized by Global Development Network and the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA)

Global Development Network (GDN) and the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) co-hosted a Policy Dialogue titled "Panchayati Raj, Political Empowerment and Service Delivery in India" on 28 November, 2013. The full day discussions drew from the research findings of GDN's recently concluded Global Research Project Varieties of Governance: Effective Public Service Delivery and research undertaken in the area by scholars at IRMA. Speakers included Professor Hari K. Nagarajan (RBI Chair Professor, IRMA) who made a presentation on his study sponsored by GDN on ‘Governance and Effective Public Service Delivery in Social Services in India’ which focused on the provision of education and water in rural India.

Post-2015 MDG Consultation

Organized by Global Development Network in cooperation with the UN's Post-2015 MDG High Level Panel of Eminent Persons

Global Development Network (GDN) held a day long consultation on 19 March, 2013 which connected members of the Post-2015 MDG High Level Panel of Eminent Persons appointed by the UN with researchers from developing countries, senior policymakers and key stakeholders from Asia and other regions. Titled 'Beyond the MDGs: What Development Framework after 2015?', the consultation included a workshop with experts and academics in the morning and an open High Level Policy Dialogue in the afternoon, around two main themes: (a) Livelihoods, employment and social protection, and (b) Water, sanitation, health and sustainability. The event was preceded by an online survey of the GDN Community.

A Dinner Meeting with Pascal Lamy, Director-General, WTO on Trade, Competition and Development

Jointly organized by Global Development Network and CUTS International
30 January 2013; Metropolitan Hotel, New Delhi, India

Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), was the guest of honor at a dinner jointly hosted by GDN and CUTS International, to talk about trade, competition and development. The two organizations took this opportunity to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that envisages a promising cooperation between the two. The goal, through this partnership, is to build on the considerable work that CUTS International has conducted on trade, competition policies and their impact on development trajectories, and on the global research network of GDN in order to promote further academic research in developing countries on these important policy issues.

Framework after 2015?' consultation held in New Delhi, 19 March, 2013

GDN's Post-2015 MDG Consultation aimed at providing the High Level Panel of Eminent Persons appointed by the UN with the academic perspective from the South. The deliberations delved on the current scenario "Where we are now? What has been achieved under the current MDG framework? What is still missing?" as well as formulated forward-looking concrete proposals on "Where do we go from here? Setting the post-2015 development agenda."
