REGIONAL RESEARCH COMPETITIONS GLOBAL RESEARCH COMPETITIONGLOBAL RESEARCH PROJECTS
Overview

The Regional Research Competitions (RRCs) are the entry point into GDN’s research program. The main purpose is to identify and unearth talent in developing and transition countries. RRCs are carried out every year by GDN's Regional Network Partners (RNPs) to provide early-career researchers the chance to work under expert guidance on development topics that are particularly relevant in their regions.

Target Participants

Individuals and teams of up to three early-career researchers are invited to apply in their respective regions. Participants represent one or more disciplines in the social sciences.

Structure and Design

Research Topic/Question
Broad development, policy-relevant topics are chosen every year by the RNPs for the competition.

Research Activities
Research projects may involve, but are not limited to, the following types of research activities:

(1) Applied research;
(2) Case studies;
(3) Comparative studies; and
(4) Critical analyses of existing research.

Mentoring
All participants benefit from intensive mentoring throughout the grant performance period, from inception to completion. The mentoring responsibility within each regional research team lies with a senior scholar who is appointed by the corresponding RNP.

Training in Research Communications
A half-day introductory training workshop in research communications is provided by within the framework of the RRC review workshop.

Research Grant Information

The RRC grant performance period is one year. The financial envelope of the RRCs covers, on an average, 100 grants per year.

The value of individual awards varies according to local economic conditions and various aspects of the research projects, such as scope of the research project, need for primary data collection, team size and composition, etc. Net research grants average US$ 12,000.
