Under this program, GDN will carry out the following key activities, amongst others:
Regional Diagnostic and Research Agenda: A rigorous mapping exercise will be undertaken to identify information requirements and current knowledge and institutional gaps in public expenditure effectiveness and efficiency in the identified program countries. Based on the research priorities identified through this regional diagnostics, GDN will produce a research agenda, highlighting specific topics and methodologies to strengthen research capabilities for the delivery of evidence-based policy recommendations in the program countries.
Policy Oriented Research: GDN will support research institutions based in six selected countries to undertake quality policy oriented research on public expenditure priorities and management. As part of its research capacity building endeavour, GDN will work closely with the selected institutions to provide them with the support needed to define the scope of their study, undertake the research and, monitor and disseminate outcomes. GDN will also engage relevant experts in the field as technical and scientific advisors to work closely with the institutions to provide intensive mentoring and guidance on their research design, implementation and analysis.
Policy Outreach: This program has strong emphasis on outreach, which will be built in from the onset. Institutions will engage with civil society, policymakers, media and other relevant stakeholders. At the start of the program, a policy lab will be organized to engage the decision-making community in shaping the research questions. This will provide a platform to seek their agreement and inputs on the program objectives, research focus and activities in each country. Furthermore, at the end of the program a policy seminar will be organized to share research findings. Institutions will produce and disseminate two policy briefs capturing the main findings and policy recommendations derived from the regional diagnostics on research study.
